Rebalancing of MSCI index adds to action on bourse
The rebalancing of the MSCI Standard index involving several Greek blue chips as of Monday brought increased trading in the last session of the week, with two-thirds of turnover concentrated on just four stocks: Alpha, OPAP, PPC and Piraeus Bank.
The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,314.74 points, shedding 0.64 percent from Thursday’s 1,323.24 points. On a weekly basis it climbed 0.99 percent. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 fell 0.68 percent to 423.68 points.
Marfin Investment Group posted a 7.42 percent increase, while Intralot slid 3.85 percent.
In total, 66 stocks rose, 76 declined and 18 stayed put.
Turnover soared to 164.5 million euros, up on Thursday’s 158 million.
