Natural gas rates fall by just 8 pct
Natural gas consumers in Attica will only get an 8 percent discount in their bills, or 0.004 euros per kilowatt/hour, from the recent deal between the Public Gas Corporation (DEPA) and Russian supplier Gazprom, as half of the discount will go toward various taxes, carriage fees and profit margins.
The rates that the Attica Gas Supply Company (EPA Attikis) announced on Wednesday, applying from April 1, provide for a nominal rate of 0.066 euros per KW/h, including value-added tax, down from an average rate of 0.07 KW/h previously.
Major consumers (of more than 100 gigawatt/hours per annum) will get a 10 percent discount.
EPA Attikis said that this included Gazprom’s retroactive reduction of rates, applying from last July’s gas sales, although DEPA sources insisted that the Russian energy giant has not yet changed its rates retroactively, so EPA Attikis must have made an estimate on its impact on the consumer rate.
