Thursday’s bourse rise wipes out most weekly losses

The strong rise that started in the local bourse on Wednesday continued on Thursday, with most stocks recording significant gains in the last session before the Easter holidays. Therefore the weekly losses were contained to just 0.18 percent compared with Friday, April 11.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,248.61 points, adding 2.51 percent to Wednesday’s 1,218 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 expanded 2.65 percent to 401.83 points.

Titan Cement and OPAP gaming company outperformed with gains of 8.65 percent and 8.51 percent respectively. Piraeus Bank continued its descent, shedding 2.29 percent.

In total, 91 stocks reported gains, 36 showed losses and 10 stayed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 132.8 million euros, about a third of Wednesday’s 392.3 million.

The bourse will remain closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday and reopen on Tuesday.
