Moderate stock losses on limited volume due to US holiday

Friday’s subdued bourse session contained the benchmark’s weekly gains to 2.8 percent. Trading volume was low, mainly due to the US Independence Day holiday.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,243.80 points, shedding 0.83 percent from Thursday’s 1,254.21 points and putting an end to a four-day rising streak. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 25 contracted 0.89 percent to close at 402.35 points, while small-caps added 0.11 percent.

Jumbo outperformed with gains of 3.55 percent, followed by PPC, which climbed 1.91 percent. Ellaktor declined by 3.13 percent.

In total 41 stocks posted gains, 58 suffered losses and 29 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 72.2 million euros, down from Thursday’s 95 million.
