Hahn calls for speeding up consultation
Greek state and regional authorities will need to speed up consultations for the approval of new European subsidy packages before the current term of the EU’s commissioners expires if they want to avoid delays in the start of the Greek program, Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahn has warned.
Hahn reminded Athens that the term of this college expires in end-October, saying that the Greek side “must make the most of the time left in order to prevent any delays that could predictably stem from the changes to the persons or the portfolios of commissioners.”
While acknowledging the government’s efforts in absorbing resources from the current funding program, which have ranked Greece third among the member states with the best performance, Hahn said this should not lead to complacency. Athens, he added, should resolve the delays observed in priority projects to end up with those chosen for funding, as they will also constitute the projects bridging the current with the next funding period.
He also called on the new regional authorities to stem the outflow of young people from the areas by creating the appropriate structures.
