Crete is most the popular Greek island

Ten of the Mediterranean’s 30 most popular island vacation destinations this summer are Greek, according to searches made on Trivago’s 47 online booking platforms between April 1 and June 30.

Crete (pictured) came first among the Greek islands (taking the sixth spot overall), followed by Santorini (in eighth), Rhodes (12th), Myconos (13th), Corfu (15th), Zakynthos (21st), Kos (23rd), Paros (24th), Milos (26th) and Ios (27th).

Topping the list were Majorca, Sicily, Tenerife, Sardinia and Ibiza. However the five cheapest hotel rates on average are to be found on Greek islands: Milos had an average rate of 81 euros per double room per night, ahead of Corfu and Paros (both on 85 euros), Zakynthos (90 euros) and Ios (91 euros).

Myconos and Spain’s Formentera shared the honor of having the most expensive hotel rates, at 267 euros per double room per night.
