Consumer confidence in Greece improved by two index points in the second quarter of 2014 compared to the same period last year, reaching 55 points, though still significantly below the global average of 97 points, the latest Nielsen Global Survey of Consumer Confidence and Spending has found.
The survey covered more than 30,000 consumers in 60 countries and found that consumers in Portugal were the least optimistic at 48 points (down three points from Q2 2013) and in Slovenia at 49 points (up one point from last year).
“Global consumer confidence increased one index point to 97 in the second quarter of 2014, marking the highest level since first-quarter 2007. This forward momentum comes after a stagnant 2013, when confidence was stubbornly stuck at 94 for three out of four quarters,” Nielsen said in its report published Tuesday.
“In the world’s biggest economies, consumer confidence increased six points in the US (104), remained flat in China (111), declined eight points in Japan (73), declined three points in Germany (96), increased one point in France and increased three points in the UK from the first quarter,” it added.
