Work to start on Academy Gardens

The development of a plot once owned by textile factory Mouzakis on Kifissou Avenue in western Athens is expected to begin in September, on an investment of 300 million euros by Greek developer Artume.

The plan is to construct a shopping and entertainment center named Academy Gardens, with a total leasable surface of 55,000 square meters.

Sources said that the competent committee of the Environment and Energy Ministry will meet in early August in order to decide on the licensing process after the Council of State rejected a motion by local residents against the investment plan.

Residents had claimed that the project would affect the archaeological site of Plato’s Academy, but the country’s highest constitutional court ruled that the location of the development is too far away from the site and, being on a major thoroughfare, will have a minimum noise impact on the neighborhood.
