Sales periods to vary depending on local needs

The Development Ministry is reportedly examining the shift of the sales periods from their current dates to different periods during the year to suit the needs and peculiarities of each regional market.

The proposal submitted to Deputy Minister Gerasimos Giakoumatos provides for regional authorities to decide on the time of year when retailers will be able to offer their merchandise at a discount, following the recommendation of local traders’ associations.

A similar model is used in Italy, Spain and France, where tourism traffic and the weather are fairly similar to Greece’s.
