Greek retail trade rises 1.5 pct in July

The Greek retail trade saw a rise of 1.5 percent in July compared to the same month last year, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) said on Tuesday.

The turnover index in retail trade for July 2014 recorded an increase of 1.5 percent compared to July 2013, while compared to June this year it recorded a decrease of 0.7 percent, ELSTAT reported.

The volume of retail trade (i.e. turnover in retail trade at constant prices), in July saw an increase of 4.8 percent compared to July of the previous year and an uptick of 2.8 percent compared to June.

The highest rises in turnover year-on-year in July were recorded in books, stationery, other goods (11.5 percent), clothing and footwear (8.2 percent) and pharmaceutical products and cosmetics (7.4 percent).
