Tourism zoning plan to promote development of luxury resorts

Tourism Minister Olga Kefaloyianni said on Monday that the government is trying to facilitate the development of large tourist resorts that will offer high-quality infrastructure such as golf courses, marinas, spas, conference centers and holiday accommodation.

The plan can be promoted through a national zoning plan for tourism that is currently being drafted, Kefaloyianni said, addressing the Luxury Hospitality conference in Athens.

The market share of four- and five-star hotels in Greece has risen from 25 percent a decade ago to 40 percent today.

The event, organized by the Ecole hoteliere de Lausanne and the International New York Times, ends on Tuesday.
