Stocks give up 0.37 percent in quiet session

The bourse benchmark managed to recover most of the losses incurred during Thursday’s session at Athinon Avenue, having dropped as low as 966 points, to close at just over the 990-point mark.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 990.04 points, shedding 0.37 percent from Wednesday’s 993.73 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index slipped 0.14 percent to 323.96 points, although small-caps expanded by 0.20 percent.

Piraeus Bank outperformed among the blue chips with 2.46 percent growth, followed by Hellenic Exchanges (up 2.35 percent).

Marfin Investment Group gave up 4.12 percent and Hellenic Petroleum lost 2.97 percent.

In total 46 stocks posted gains, 75 headed south and 21 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 76.4 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 118.2 million.
