Fourlis to bring The Athlete’s Foot to Greece

Fourlis is extending its deal with Intersport International to include the launch of the multinational’s other chain of stores besides Intersport, The Athlete’s Foot, which operates in several countries together with Intersport.

The move forms part of the Athens-listed holding company’s strategy to introduce big international brands to the domestic market.

Fourlis is the master franchisee for Intersport in Greece, Turkey, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania, where it saw the chain grow from 90 to 98 stores within the first half of the year. Sales posted growth of 8.8 percent year-on-year in H1.

The domestic sportswear market has shown remarkable resistance to the economic crisis, with the Intersport chain being the leading player and seeing its sales turnover increase by about 10 percent in 2014 on an annual basis.

Swiss-based Intersport International absorbed The Athlete’s Foot in November 2012 and is the sector’s world leader. The merger of the two companies and the parallel operation of the two chains in several countries has led to the expansion of The Athlete’s Foot chain through a number of Intersport International partners, such as Fourlis.
