Subsidies set aside for gas system installation

Property owners will have until April 30, 2015, to apply to enter subsidy programs aimed at encouraging people to switch from heating oil to natural gas when it comes to heating their homes.

They will then have until July 10 to submit the 10 documents required for the disbursement of the subsidy, according to a ministerial decision published on Monday in the Government Gazette.

The program will be funded with 15 million euros set aside from the European Union subsidy program for the 2007-13 period.

Ten million euros will be used for households that can hook up to the gas network in Attica, 2 million will be for Central Macedonia while the remaining 3 million euros will go to households in Thessaly.

According to statements by Energy Minister Yiannis Maniatis a few weeks ago, a total of 50,000 households stand to benefit from these subsidies.

Already applications for connection to the gas network have soared by 200 percent in Attica this year, as well as by 300 percent in Thessaloniki and 450 percent in Thessaly.

The program is exclusively for households, and not professional spaces, and also applies to those who have linked up with the gas network since September 25.
