New record in Athens foreign air arrivals

The strong growth rates in foreign arrivals seen last year continued into the first months of 2015, with Athens International Airport recording an all-time record for February, reaching 548,925 passengers from abroad last month, or a 19 percent year-on-year increase.

In total, passenger traffic through the country’s main terminal last month grew 24.6 percent, thanks to the 34.3 percent growth in domestic traffic, amounting to 355,713 passengers and continuing the impressive rise observed in recent months.

The attraction of Athens as a final destination is also growing, with 24 percent more foreign passengers choosing to stay in the Greek capital last month rather than using it as a transit point for another destination within the country.

In total, passenger traffic in January and February exceeded 1.8 million travelers, thereby posting a 26.3 percent increase from the same period last year.
