Stock market inches up in day of low turnover

Early gains had all but evaporated by the end of Tuesday’s bourse session, but the benchmark still managed to put an end to its four-day losing streak. Lenders, however, held on to most of their gains, with the banks index rising 4.56 percent following cumulative losses of 27.62 percent from the previous four days.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 861.24 points, adding 0.27 percent to Monday’s 858.95 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index expanded 0.50 percent to end at 252.83 points.

National Bank outperformed, growing 9.24 percent, while Titan Cement declined 5.74 percent.

In total 68 stocks advanced, 46 dropped and 20 stayed put.

Turnover was the lowest of the last 28 sessions, at 69.5 million euros, down from Monday’s 83 million.
