Athens bourse benchmark drops below 800 points

Investors in the Greek stock market clearly had no positive feelings about the start of talks between the technical experts of the eurozone and the Greek government in Brussels on Wednesday, with banks again leading the blue chip losers.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 797.30 points, shedding 2.46 percent from Tuesday’s 817.39 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index contracted 2.81 percent to end at 234.40 points.

The banks index declined 5.81 percent as National lost 7.50 percent and Eurobank dropped 6.96 percent. Jumbo added 0.75 percent.

In total 33 stocks posted gains, 74 sustained losses and 20 ended unchanged. Turnover amounted to 69.2 million euros, down from Tuesday’s 92.5 million.
