Dragasakis promises OTE it has full backing of gov’t
Deputy Prime Minister Yiannis Dragasakis expressed on Wednesday the government’s full support for the investment plans of Hellenic Telecommunications Organization (OTE), while the managements of OTE and its major shareholder Deutsche Telekom promised Athens they would support the country’s strategy in the context of the European Commission’s “Digital Agenda 2020” initiative.
The first meeting of the two main shareholders of OTE – DT and the Greek state – after the formation of the SYRIZA-led government, confirmed the good relations between the two sides. The government promised to assist OTE through the acceleration of reforms needed for the country to meet the targets of Digital Agenda 2020.
Market professionals spoke of an effort by the government to contain the negative impression given to investors in the country, especially on the front of privatizations and Eldorado Gold.
