Lafazanis reaches preliminary energy package deal in Russia

Energy Minister Panayiotis Lafazanis told a press conference in Athens on Tuesday that his visit to Moscow this week has paved the way for a package agreement between Greece and Russia in the energy sector.

Its main pillar will be Greek support for the so-called Turkish Stream pipeline, which will cross Greek territory.

The package will also include the participation of Russian companies in the tender for the surveying and utilization of hydrocarbons, a reduction in the price of natural gas that Greece imports from Russia and lifting the Russian embargo on Greek products.

The deal will likely be sealed during the prime minister’s visit to Russia next week.
