TANKERS Firmer conditions for VLCCs with rates hovering above W/S 100 out of Arabian Gulf with destination East. – At higher numbers as well Suezmaxes out of W. Africa. Sun has fixed M/T «SCF Khibiny» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading September 28, discharging USAC, at W/S 87.5. – Aframaxes steady, with Med. above W/S 100 and Cont. around W/S 95. BP has fixed M/T «Natura» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading September 19, discharging UKC, at W/S 95. – Caribs with an increased number of fixtures. The 70,000 tons of cargo liftings are fixed at W/S 145. – In the Cont., CSSA for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading September 10 Germany, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Bering Sea» at W/S 90. – In Caribs, Valero has fixed M/T «Leonis» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading September 14, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 142.5. – In W. Africa, ExxonMobil, for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading September 30, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Spetses» at W/S 80. DRY CARGO Market more active, with Capers index gaining 51 points last Friday, reaching a total of 3,266 while Biffex index moved upward by 20 points, totaling 2,304. – In the Atlantic, Noble has fixed M/V «Bulk Europe,» 169,770 dwt, built 2001, delivery end-September Passero, trip via Brazil, redelivery Far East, at USD 44,000 daily. – In the East and on T/C periods, Refind Success has fixed M/V «Cic Elli,» 171,000 dwt, built 2003, delivery Korea Oct. 1-5, for three years’ trading at USD 23,500 daily. – On Panamaxes, rates continue to firm, especially in the Atlantic, mainly due to mineral shipments. TORM has fixed M/V «Top Knight,» 73,941 dwt, built 1999, delivery UK end-September, trip via Orinoco, redelivery UKC/Med., at USD 18,150 daily. – In the East, there is still a good demand for T/C periods with Swiss Marine having fixed M/V «Alaska,» 71,694 dwt, built 1997, delivery Japan September 10-15, for three-five months’ trading, at USD 17,250 daily. – In Atlantic, NNC has fixed M/V «Darya Geeth,» delivery US Gulf September 11-19, redelivery Passero, at USD 16,600 daily and USD 340,000 ballast bonus. – On smaller sizes, T&E has fixed M/V «Yasa Kaptan Erbil,» 52,456 dwt, built 2002, delivery USAC 15-20 September, redelivery Far East, at USD 19,000 daily.
