TANKERS Med. market on Aframaxes is reasonably active, with rates still hovering around W/S 105, despite the difference in views between charterers and owners. – The Cont. has little fresh inquiry, with Baltic only quoting a few new cargoes. JNS for 100,000 tons of cargo, loading September 26 Poland, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Tempera» at W/S 92.5. – Caribs quieter, with Valero having fixed M/T «Eagle Austin» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading September 24, discharging USAC, at W/S 165. – VLCCs and Suezmaxes out of Arabian Gulf and West Africa respectively at stable rates. – In the Med., CTC for 80,000 tons of cargo. loading mid-September, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Gaetano d’ Aleiso» at W/S 100. – On Suezmaxes, Unocal has fixed M/T «Minerva Nounou» for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading September 30, discharging UKC/Med. at W/S 100. – In Caribs and on smaller sizes, Stasco has fixed M/T «Skirapoula» for 50,000 tons of cargo, loading September 27, discharging USWC, at W/S 175. DRY CARGO Caper rates remain strong, with Mol Navix having fixed M/V «Cape Sun,» 171,746 dwt, built 1999, delivery October 1-3 France via Colombia, redelivery Portugal, at USD 40,000 daily, while Shinwa has fixed M/V «Tian Yang Hai,» 169,999 dwt, built 1997, delivery Passero September 26-28, trip via Brazil, redelivery Japan, at USD 45,000 daily. – Several Panamaxes in the Atlantic have been fixed, although the list of new cargoes to be covered appears limited. Fayette has fixed M/V «Monarch,» 61,615 dwt, built 1981, delivery end-September – October 10 Turkey via Black Sea, redelivery Muscat, at USD 17,500 daily. – In the East, the demand for short T/C periods still exists, with NNC having fixed M/V «Amadeus,» 66,916 dwt, built 1984, delivery Japan mid-September, redelivery Egypt, at USD 11,500 daily. – In the Atlantic, Cargill has fixed M/V «Orestis Ermis,» 64,942 dwt, built 1981, delivery Belgium mid-September via East Coast South America, redelivery UKC/Med., at USD 14,000 daily. – On coal cargoes, EdDF for 125,000 tons of cargo, loading Australia October 15-31, discharging France, has fixed Coeclerici tonnage at USD 19.60 per ton with 35,000-ton load and 25,000 tons’ discharge.
