TANKERS Rates holding in N. Sea, despite limited inquiry. Activity in the Baltic is helping to maintain and drive the market. – Preem fixed M/T «Stena Sirita» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 13, discharging Sweden, at W/S 192.5. – Med. quieter, but still a number of cargoes to be covered. Rates remain high, especially out of Black Sea. – Alpine for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 22, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Four Bay» at W/S 230, while on Suezmaxes, Petraco has fixed M/T «Alliance» for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 21, discharging Med., at W/S 170. – Caribs market quiet due to Thanksgiving holiday. – W. Africa active on Suezmaxes and VLCCs. Vitol for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 24, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Knock Muir» at W/S 165, while Koch for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 19 with same destination, has fixed M/T «Berge Sigval» at W/S 130. – In the Med., Stasco has fixed M/T «Mayon Spirit» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 5 Libya, discharging Med., at W/S 200. – On Suezmaxes, Alpine has fixed M/T «Astro Cassiopeia» for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 10 Egypt, discharging Med., at W/S 147.5. – In the Cont., Valero has fixed M/T «Rebecca» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 18, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 200, while Alpine has fixed M/T «British Willow» for 100,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 2 Baltic, discharging UKC, at W/S 160. – In Caribs, Lyondell has fixed AET tonnage for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 3, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 252.5. – In W. Africa, Vitol has fixed M/T «Knock Muir» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 24, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 165. – In Arabian Gulf, Thaioil has fixed M/T «Navarin» for 255,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 12, discharging Thailand, at W/S 160. DRY CARGO Rates have gradually risen on Capers, with charterers chasing owners for period cover. – In the Atlantic, Hanjin has fixed M/V «New Halcyon,» 149,477 dwt, built 1993, delivery Colombia, redelivery Turkey for 4-6 months’ trading at USD 50,000 daily. – On Panamaxes, market strong in all areas. In the Atlantic, spot rates rising; long-term period chartering is dominating the East. – Pioneer metals has fixed M/V «An Angel Omonia,» 73,519 dwt, built 1996, delivery Morocco Nov. 27-28 via S. Africa, redelivery China, at USD 33,000 daily, while Cargill for 23-25 months’ trading, delivery Japan end Nov., has fixed M/V «Aldebaran,» 74,875 dwt, built 2001, at USD 21,500 daily. – On Handy/Handymaxes, rates very strong in all areas, with the Handies market catching the bigger sizes. – On coal cargoes, Coeclerici has fixed Genmar tonnage for 130,000 tons, loading Dec. 1-14 Australia, discharging Philippines, at USD 21.00 per ton with 35,000-ton load and 30,000 tons discharge.
