TANKERS Aframax tonnage in the N. Sea looks tight for early positions. Rates have moved upward, with 80,000-ton cargoes at W/S 200 and 100,000-ton cargoes above W/S 160. – Med. remains quiet, while rates are firm at W/S 240 out of the Black Sea. – Petraco has fixed M/T «Nissos Christiana» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 13 Syria, discharging UKC/Med. at W/S 225, while Chevtex for same cargo, loading Dec. 20, discharging UKC/Med., has fixed M/T «Arafura Sea» at the same levels. – Firm conditions in Caribs. Atmi has fixed Teekay tonnage for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 14, discharging US Gulf at W/S 252.5. – Suezmaxes weaker out of W. Africa as are VLCCs out of the Arabian Gulf. – VLCC cargoes with destinations east are fixed at W/S 150, while for destinations west, at W/S 107.5. – In the Med., Repsol for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 13 Libya, discharging Spain, has fixed M/T «Sarpen» at W/S 240. – In the Cont., CSSA has fixed M/T «Molda» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 6 N. Sea, discharging UKC at W/S 190. – In Caribs, Atmi has fixed M/T «Harmony» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 15, discharging US Gulf at W/S 252.5. – In W. Africa, Dreyfus has fixed M/T «Pecos» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 15, discharging UKC at W/S 165. – In Arabian Gulf, Knoc for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading Dec. 19, discharging S. Korea, has fixed M/T «Golden Stream» at W/S 150. DRY CARGO The Capers market in the Atlantic seems tightly balanced, however charterers are trying to push freight levels down by offering USD 30 per ton on mineral Tubarao / China with owners insisting on not less than USD 33. – On Panamaxes, market still very active with mineral cargoes dominating activity. – On T/C periods, BHP Billiton has fixed M/V «Alpha Afovos,» 74,428 dwt, built 2001, for 23-25 months’ trading at USD 24,500 daily. – In Far East, M/V «Jin Pu Hai,» 69,902 dwt, built 1996, delivery / redelivery Japan Dec. 10-15, via Australia was fixed at USD 38,000 daily. – On Panamaxes in Far East, NCS has fixed M/V «Ionian Eagle,» 74,085 dwt, built 2001, delivery port Kelang Dec. 4-5, via India, redelivery China at USD 41,000 daily. – In Atlantic, M/V «Kookaburra,» 76,607 dwt, built 2000, delivery Sweden Dec. 16-17 for 12 months’ trading, was fixed at USD 30,700 daily. – On coal cargoes, Swiss Marine for 170,000 tons of cargo, loading S. Africa, Dec. 15-25, discharging Rotterdam has fixed M/V «Mykonos» at USD 22.75 per ton with two-day load and 25,000 tons discharge. – On ore cargoes, Glory Wealth has fixed M/V «Alexandros T» for 160,000 tons, loading S. Africa Dec. 20-30, discharging China at USD 26.50 per ton with two-day load and 30,000 tons discharge.
