ATHEX: Trading volume drops below 60 mln

The hot and cold reports on the progress of Greece’s talks with its creditors resulted in a ding-dong trading session on the Athens Exchange (ATHEX) on Thursday, with the benchmark eventually ending with small gains, albeit on minimal turnover.

The ATHEX general index closed at 845.73 points, adding 0.63 percent from Wednesday’s 840.40 points. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index expanded 0.77 percent to close at 254.17 points.

Banks stood out with sector gains of 2.70 percent, as Eurobank rose 3.55 percent and Alpha climbed 3.17 percent, but they were dwarfed by Marfin Investment Group, which soared 11.94 percent. The biggest losers were Folli Follie (down 1.90 percent) and Grivalia Properties (1.45 percent), on an otherwise quiet day.

In total 57 stocks headed up, 43 went down and 27 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to just 59.3 million euros, down from Wednesday’s 70.1 million.
