Third-country tourists posted major increase up to 2014

Arabs, Chinese, Indians, Turks and Russians are among the tourists outside the Schengen area whose number has spiked in the previous four years, from 2010 to 2014, according to a survey published on Monday by the Intelligence Institute of the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE).

The number of visas issued to Chinese visitors to Greece reached 64,221 last year, growing at a far greater rate than that of rival destinations such as Spain, Italy, France and Portugal.

Visas to United Arab Emirates visitors doubled in those four years to 7,084 in 2014, while visas to Indians grew six time to reach 17,028. Visas to Turks grew threefold to 144,063.
