ATHEX: May ends with a rise of 0.3 pct

The last session of the Greek bourse for this month contained May gains to just 0.30 percent as various statements by eurozone and IMF officials confirmed that the market will have to wait for at least a few more days before a deal is reached with the Greek government.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed on Friday at 825.38 points, shedding 1.44 percent from Thursday’s 837.41 points. On a weekly basis it declined 1.77 percent. The large-cap FTSE/ATHEX 25 index contracted 1.36 percent to close at 249.66 points.

Terna Energy outperformed adding 5.45 percent, while Public Power Corp gave up 8.06 percent.

In total, 53 stocks enjoyed gains, 52 took losses and 16 stayed put.

Turnover soared to 187.2 million euros, up from Thursday’s 91.5 million, thanks to the rebalancing of indexes, which will be effective as of Tuesday, and which led to extra trading for certain stocks.
