Local stocks edge lower in day of quiet trade

Despite the gains recorded by bank chips in the last trading session of the week, the negative jobs data coming from across the Atlantic saw the  benchmark of the Greek bourse end the day in the red, while turnover reverted to August levels.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 646.62 points, shedding 0.37 percent from Thursday’s 649.05 points. On a weekly basis it rose 2.02 percent.

The large-cap FTSE 25 index gave up 0.37 percent on Friday to end at 188.80 points. The banks index rose 1.42 percent, as Alpha continued its ascent, adding 8.18 percent, and Piraeus advanced 1.08 percent. Jumbo lost 4.90 percent.

In total 44 stocks went up, 45 headed down and 11 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 22.3 million euros, down from Thursday’s 34.2 million.
