Trainose and OLTH projects to end in 2016

Following the signing of the concession of Piraeus Port Authority to Cosco last week, the government and its sell-off fund (TAIPED) are gearing up to complete more privatizations as soon as possible.

TAIPED chief Stergios Pitsiorlas told Mega TV on Saturday that the planned privatization of railway operator Trainose and of Thessaloniki Port Authority (OLTH) will also be completed within 2016. He confirmed that bids for Trainose are expected within May, with the Russians and the Italians showing significant interest.

On OLTH, Pitsiorlas said that bids are expected in July, with eight companies already showing interested.

The government is also eager to push for the development of the plot of the old Athens airport at Elliniko in southern Athens, hoping to reach a preliminary agreement with the preferred bidder within the month.

Well-informed sources have told Kathimerini that the government will soon propose a draft agreement to the Lamda Development-led consortium regarding the utilization of Elliniko. This plan, the sources add, will not include any spectacular changes to what had been previously agreed, as otherwise it would not get accepted by the strategic investor and might raise legitimacy issues in relation to the contract.
