ATHEX: Benchmark rallies to its highest level yet this year

The prospect of the completion of the review by the time the May 24 Eurogroup meeting takes place sent the benchmark of the Greek bourse on Tuesday to its highest point in 2016, while the trading volume was the biggest of the last 32 sessions. Still, the second reading of the Eurogroup decision made some traders more cautious in the latter half of the session.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 629.29 points, adding 3.15 percent to Monday’s 610.07 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 3.94 percent to end at 177.10 points.

After Alpha Bank (that rose 5.99 percent on Tuesday), National Bank has also exceeded its share capital increase price, climbing 3.74 percent to 0.305 euros on Tuesday. Eurobank soared 13.60 percent and Piraeus rose 4.36 percent. OLP added 7.18 percent and PPC was up 6.01 percent.

In total 79 stocks recorded gains, 22 posted losses and 19 ended unchanged.

Turnover came to 196.2 million euros, compared with Monday’s 66.7 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange advanced 0.16 percent to close at 66.91 points.
