ATHEX: Greek banks index up 27 pct in two trading sessions

Anticipation that Britons will vote to stay in the EU sent European markets higher over the last couple of sessions, and Athens was no exception, as the local banks index amassed gains of 27 percent in just two trading days.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 608.29 points on Tuesday, adding 3.71 percent to Friday’s 586.55 points.

The large-cap FTSE 25 index (having been multiplied 10 times) expanded 4.72 percent to end at 1,666.93 points.

Alpha outperformed with its 10.61 percent increase, just ahead of National Bank, which rose 10.55 percent.

Lamda Development declined 3.11 percent.

In total 63 stocks posted gains, 34 took losses and 17 stayed put.

Turnover amounted to 112.5 million euros, up from Friday’s 100.7 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange advanced 0.74 percent to close at 69.29 points.
