ATHEX: Stock market has entered a summer lull

Bourse trading has switched into summer mode, as the week opened with minor losses for the benchmark and the smallest daily turnover of the last eight months. International markets are also looking for their direction after the developments in Europe and Turkey over the last few days.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 555.26 points, shedding 0.38 percent from Friday’s 557.36 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 0.85 percent to end at 1,505.45 points, but mid-caps expanded 0.74 percent and small-caps grew 0.95 percent.

The large-cap index dropped mainly due to the 3.04 percent decline of the bank index, as National lost 5 percent, Piraeus fell 3.03 percent, Eurobank gave up 2.90 percent and Alpha surrendered 2.22 percent. Hellenic Petroleum decreased 2.23 percent, EYDAP leaked 1.75 percent and Piraeus Port Authority shrank 1.57 percent, while Folli Follie increased 2.35 percent and OTE telecom rose 1.39 percent.

In total 41 stocks registered gains, 50 endured losses and 14 remained unchanged.

Turnover came to a record low for 2016 of 24.2 million euros, just over half of last Friday’s 47 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange conceded 0.50 percent to close at 65.12 points.
