Vehicle registrations rise 20 pct y-o-y in October

The number of new and used vehicles put into circulation for the first time rose last month to 9,479, showing a 20-percent rise from October 2015’s figure of 7,897, the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) reported on Tuesday.

ELSTAT said that the increase comes after a dip of 13.8 percent between October 2015 and October 2014.

According to the figures, the total number of new cars that were put into circulation showed only a slight uptick of 0.8 percent in October, year-on-year, coming to 5,485 from 5,440 in October 2015.

New motorcycles of over 50cc fared better in October, rising 12.7 percent to 2,866 against 2,543 in October 2015, compared with a decrease of 6.1 percent from the corresponding month in 2014.

In the January-October period, 110,775 cars (both new and used from abroad) were put into circulation for the first time, representing a 13.3 percent increase from the total of 97,788 in the same period in 2015. Of these, 73,263 cars were new, while the corresponding number during the respective period of 2015 was 67,676, recording an 8.3 percent rise.

New motorcycles came to to 35,177 in January-October against 31,377 in the same period in 2015, representing an increase of 12.1 percent. Of these 32,829 were new motorcycles, ELSTAT said.
