TANKERS Aframax market in the Med. / Cont. and Caribs continues to remain at steady levels with limited fresh inquiry. – Modern Aframaxes in the Med. are still fixed at around W/S 205-207 levels, while in the Cont. the 80,000-ton cargoes are fixed at W/S 152.5. – In Caribs, the 70,000-ton cargo liftings are fixed at W/S 240-250. – West Africa has a limited amount of fixtures. Unipec on VLCCs for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading April 22, discharging China, has fixed tankers tonnage at W/S 115. – In the Med., Tamoil has fixed M/T «Kornati» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading March 30 Libya, discharging Med., at W/S 205. – In the Cont., CSSA for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading March 28 North Sea, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Nordic Tornita» at W/S 152.5. – In Caribs, Atmi has fixed M/T «Seatransport» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading March 23, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 240. – In Arabian Gulf, Chevtex for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading April 9, discharging South Africa, has fixed M/T «Genmar Traveller» at W/S 139.5. DRY CARGO Caper activity is limited is both oceans. Trading in the East has been hit by loading problems in Australia. The early ships are talking easier rates while others are ballasting to watch the market in the Atlantic, which presently remains steady. – Swissmarine has fixed M/V «Cape Venus,» 172,612 dwt, built 1996, ballasting from China, loading coal cargo from South Africa, discharging UKC, at USD 21.00 per ton. – Also a low start on Panamaxes, although rates from the Atlantic to the Far East are still at above USD 50,000 daily. Louis Dreyfus has fixed M/V «Maritime Suaran,» 74,183 dwt, built 2002, delivery Passero March 14-18, trip via East Coast South America, redelivery China, at USD 52,500 daily. – On T/C periods, Daeyang has fixed M/V «Great Luck,» 71,399 dwt, built 1998, delivery March 19-20 China, for 1 year’s trading at USD 46,000 daily. – Steady rates on Handies/Handymax out of US Gulf / USAC, while out of Cont. market remains firm. Seals has fixed M/V «Sea Baisi,» 26,637 dwt, built 1997, delivery Ireland March 20-21, redelivery Far East, at USD 32,000 daily. – IVS has fixed M/V «IDC 3,» 43,656 dwt, built 1994, delivery Muscat March 19-25, trip via South Africa, redelivery UKC, at USD 27,000 daily. – On grain cargoes, Dreyfus has fixed M/V «Stalo» for 54,000 tons of cargo, loading US Gulf April 1-10, discharging Japan, at USD 72.50 per ton with 11 days’ all purposes.
