TANKERS A quiet morning in the N. Sea market. Rates have eased slightly, with 80,000-ton cargoes being fixed at W/S 145. – Med. at stable rates, with Noc having fixed M/T «Moscow» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Apr. 1-3 Libya, discharging Italy, at W/S 220; Caribs with lesser inquiry. – Atmi has fixed Genmar tonnage for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Mar. 28, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 247.5. – Suezmaxes firming in the Med., with Europet having fixed M/T «Stemnitsa» for 143,000 tons of cargo, loading Apr. 9, discharging UKC/Med., at W/S 195, while W.African market is moving sideways, though tonnage is thinning out. – VLCCs definitely weaker, with latest fixture at W/S 62.5 West and W/S 70 East. – In the Med., Alpine for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Mar. 11 Russia, discharging UKC/ Med., has fixed M/T «Maratha» at W/S 215. – In Cont. and on Suezmaxes, Koch for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Apr. 14 Latvia, discharging UKC, has fixed alliance tonnage at W/S 145. – In W. Africa, China Oil for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Apr. 19, discharging China, has fixed M/T «New Horizon» at W/S 140. – In Arabian Gulf, Thai Oil has fixed M/T «Washusan» for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading Apr. 9, discharging Far East, at W/S 90. DRY CARGO The Capers market is marginally better in the East, with charters looking for tonnage to move cargoes from Dampier for mid- to second-half Apr. dates. – Latest fixture is that of Swiss Marine having fixed M/V «Cape Australia,» 149,512 dwt, built 1990, delivery end-March Japan, trip via Peru, redelivery China, at USD 50,000 daily. – In the Atlantic, NCL has fixed M/V «Kateria,» 174,004 dwt, built 1985, delivery Apr. 22 Passero, trip via Brazil, redelivery China, at USD 86,000 daily. – Panamaxes in the Atlantic firmer with some signs of more business in the market. – The picture in the East is not as clear but the mood is definitely more optimistic. – On Handy/Handymaxes, Atlantic market still sluggish with the early ships in the US Gulf and S. America. – On Panamax in Far East, Hanjin has fixed M/V «Deng Zhou Hai,» 69,967 dwt, built 1995, delivery end-March China, redelivery Japan, at USD 38,000 daily. – In Atlantic, Daeyang has fixed M/V «Agios Nikolaos,» 61,630 dwt, built 1982, delivery Apr. 5-10 Rotterdam, trip via Ventspils, redelivery China, at USD 44,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, Bunge has fixed M/V «Tomahawk,» 45,423 dwt, built 1997, delivery Argentina end-March, redelivery Cont.-Med., at USD 35,000 daily and USD 300,000 ballast bonus. – On coal cargoes, Cargill has fixed M/V «Redestos» for 160,000 tons of cargo, loading Richards Bay Apr. 15-30, discharging Rotterdam, at USD 21.00 per ton with 2-day load and 25,000 tons discharge.
