ATHEX: Seventh day of stock growth in succession

The benchmark of the Greek stock market prose for the seventh session in a row on Wednesday, on the eve of an extraordinary meeting of the Euro Working Group to discuss progress in talks on Greece’s bailout review. Alpha Bank buoyed all the main indices higher while trading volume remained above 100 million euros.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 748.61 points, adding 2 percent to Tuesday’s 733.93 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 2.20 percent to 2,001.43 points, while mid-caps slid 0.17 percent.

Alpha Bank jumped 7.73 percent, taking the banks index 4.24 percent higher. Eurobank rose 2.87 percent and Piraeus advanced 1.85 percent.

There are were significant gains for other blue chips such as PPC (up 6.15 percent), Folli Follie (5 percent) and Jumbo (3.50 percent), but Ellaktor slumped 11.33 percent.

In total 61 stocks went up, 45 posted losses and 23 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 105.1 million euros, down from Tuesday’s 158.3 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange climbed 0.78 percent to 73.58 points.
