ATHEX: Stocks creep higher as investors opt for caution

The benchmark of the Greek stock exchange advanced cautiously on Monday in anticipation of the Eurogroup meeting in Brussels, although major market players opted to sit the session out and wait for concrete news to emerge.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 788.53 points, adding 0.56 percent to Friday’s 784.17 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index rose 0.73 percent to 2,094.65 points.

The banks index contracted 0.07 percent, which could be blamed exclusively on Alpha’s 1.81 percent fall. Piraeus gained 2.11 percent, Eurobank was up 0.33 percent and National advanced 0.30 percent. Notably, Attica Bank continued to climb, with its 11th session of growth taking it 11.01 percent higher.

OPAP increased 3.65 percent and OTE improved 2.90 percent.

In total 57 stocks went up, 45 dropped and 21 closed unchanged.

Turnover reach 70 million euros, down from Friday’s 78.7 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange declined 0.05 percent to 76.89 points.
