Athens bourse drops slightly amid light trading

Banks ended unchanged and bellwether National rose 0.61 percent to 26.44 euros. Sliding small- and mid-cap shares helped drag the Athens bourse 0.35 percent lower yesterday after spending much of the session in positive territory. Turnover slumped as the holiday season started to take its toll on volumes, brokers said. Small- and mid-cap shares let the market down today. Investors are not in a buying mood as seasonal factors are weighing, said Costas Zareifopoulos, analyst at Pendethekas Securities. The Athens benchmark general index ended at 2,562.82 points after reaching an intrasession high of 2,597.70 points. Blue chips on the FTSE/ASE-20 index eased 0.04 percent to 1,410.04 points. Mid-caps lost 1.31 percent and small-caps fell 1.08 percent. The telecoms sub-index shed 0.06 percent. Bourse heavyweight OTE Telecom retreated 0.23 percent to 17.72 euros, and Panafon added 0.34 percent to 5.82 euros. Public Power Corporation (PPC) added 0.68 percent to 11.88 euros. The shares began trading at the bourse’s daily volatility limit of ± 18 percent yesterday. Until 2020
