TANKERS A quieter market in the Mediterranean, with limited fresh inquiry and enough vessels available. – The 80,000-ton round voyages are still fixed at W/S 190-195 with destination States. Premcor has fixed M/T «Ast. Saturn,» loading Aug. 12-14 Algeria, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 179, while Hess has fixed Minerva tonnage, loading Aug. 12, with same destination, at W/S 195. – In the North Sea, a lot of VSSLs which have been on subjects were finally confirmed. In the Mediterranean, however, despite the clearout of tonnage and due to limited fresh inquiry, rates remains stable. – The 100,000-ton cargoes out of Baltic are fixed at W/S 147.5, while the 80,000-ton round voyages are fixed at W/S 157.5. – In Caribs, Petrobras for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading August 15, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Amazon Explorer» at W/S 195, while Valero for same cargo, loading August 6, with same destination, has fixed M/T «Album» at W/S 185. – Suezmaxes out of West Africa are still at W/S 175 levels with destination States. – VLCC rates out of the same area are firming to W/S 140 for same destination. – North Sea activity is limited, while Mediterranean cargoes out of Sidi Kerir are fixed at W/S 205. – Arabian Gulf continues to be active, with West and East destinations at W/S 160s and W/S 190s respectively. – VLCCs out of the same area are fixed at W/S 135-140 with destination East. CPC has fixed M/T «Astro Elephant» for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading August 25, discharging Taiwan, at W/S 140. DRY CARGO Rates remain strong in the Atlantic for Capers, while rates are firming in the East too. – For short T/C periods, Cosbulk has fixed M/V «Lowlands Brilliance,» 169,631 dwt, built 2002, delivery August 19-21, for 3-5 months’ trading at USD 73,000 daily, while Cargill has fixed M/V «Aquaglory,» 171,015 dwt, built 2003, delivery Rotterdam beginning of August, for a round voyage via Colombia, redelivery Ireland, at USD 70,000 daily. – On Panamax in Far East, Keoyang has fixed M/V «Marilena d’Amato,» 74,500 dwt, built 2001, delivery beginning of August Japan, trip via East Coast Australia, redelivery Malaysia, at USD 26,000 daily. – In Atlantic, Bottiglieri has fixed M/V «Thrasyvoulos V,» 66,908 dwt, built 1984, delivery end-July Passero, for 3-5 month period at USD 27,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, Sometra has fixed M/V «Protaganist,» 23,581 dwt, built 1996, delivery France end-July, redelivery West Africa, at USD 18,000 daily.
