Retirement applications expected to rise up to year-end

The Labor Ministry is concerned by the combination of recent decisions of the Council of State and indications of a small but significant increase in retirement applications in 2019.

There were 123,102 applications in the first nine months of the year, up from 122,120 in the same period in 2018 and 111,257 in 2017.

Experts tell Kathimerini that the wave of retirements will increase until the end of the year, not only because there are usually more applications in the last quarter of each year, but also due to government assurances that the benefit-boosting verdict of the country’s highest administrative court will apply to people who retire after October 4.
