TANKERS While the Med. market mainly on Aframaxes remains steady, N. Sea and especially Caribs market has moved sharply upward. – In the Med., the 80,000-ton round-trip voyages are still being fixed at W/S 130, while in Suezmaxes there is a trend for improvement. – KPC for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Sept. 28 Libya, discharging Italy, has fixed M/T «Iran Abadeh» at W/S 130, while Exxonmobil for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Oct. 5, discharging Italy, has fixed M/T «Sea Voyager» at W/S 137.5. – In the N. Sea, rates have moved to W/S 145. Dreyfus has fixed M/T «Aegean Spirit» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Sept. 27, for UKC round-trip at above-said levels. – Rates in Caribs have spiked to above W/S 200. – Conoco for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Sept. 30 East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Cape Akrotiri» at W/S 212.5, while Valero for same cargo, loading Sept. 28 with same destination, has fixed M/T «Genmar Revenge» at W/S 207.5. – Suezmax rates in W. Africa stable at W/S 140-145. – Sun has fixed M/T «SCF Caucasus» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading Oct. 11, discharging USAC, at W/S 140, while on VLCCs, Shell for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading Oct. 27, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Eagle Vermont» at W/S 127.5. – In Arabian Gulf, Shell for 280,000 tons of cargo, loading Oct. 4, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Astipalaia» at W/S 105. DRY CARGO Capesize rates still steady for Atlantic tonnage with further signs of period fixing. – Uming has fixed M/V «Kohfukusan,» 172,566 dwt, built 1999, delivery end-Sept. UKC, redelivery S. Korea, at USD 80,000 daily, while NCL has fixed M/V «Johnny K,» 175,000 dwt, built 1994, delivery Rotterdam Oct. 9-10, trip via Brazil, redelivery China, at USD 74,500 daily. – Steady rates for Panamaxes also with more activity for Nopac round-trip voyages in the Pacific. – Daeyang has fixed M/V «Guang Ming Feng,» 74,000 dwt, built 2002, delivery end-Sept. China, redelivery Far East, at USD 30,600 daily. – In the Atlantic, the market seems low with more early ships but so far rates remain steady and in some instances even stronger. – On T/C periods, M/V «Star of Nippon,» 75,611 dwt, built 2004, open Rottterdam early Oct. for 3-5 months’ trading, was fixed at USD 36,500 daily. – On smaller sizes, Energy has fixed M/V «Sanko Radiance,» 42,594 dwt, built 1994, delivery end-Sept.-beg. Oct. US Gulf, redelivery Italy, at USD 27,250 daily.
