TANKERS A quiet start to the year with charterers cautiously watching the vessels’ position, having slipped back due to adverse weather conditions. -Med. and Cont. on modern Aframax at W/S 105-110, while Caribs for the 70,000 tons cargo liftings at W/S 175. -In W. Africa, Suezmaxes with loading dates around Jan. 18 at W/S 80 with destination USAC, otherwise scheduling is still in progress on future cargoes. -In the Med., Mosk has fixed Iran tonnage for 80,000 tons of cargo loading Jan. 5 Egypt, discharging Venice, at W/S 105, while Tupras for same cargo quantity loading Jan. Syria discharging Turkey has fixed M/T «Enalios Nireus» at W/S 97.5. -In the Continent, CSSA for 80,000 tons of cargo loading Dec. 30 N. Sea discharging UKC has fixed M/T «Hanne Knutsen» at W/S 145. -In Caribs, Exxon has fixed M/T «Clyde Spirit» for 70,000 tons of cargo loading Jan. 3, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 166.25 while Emerald for same cargo quantity loading Jan. 5 with same destination has fixed M/T «Lucky Lady» at W/S 167.5. DRY CARGO Reviewing last year’s market movement one can really conclude that the market has gone from brilliant light to utter darkness. -Panamax rates around 6,000 – 6,500 USD per day for round trip voyages in Atlantic/Pacific, while on Capers the demand for short T/C periods still exists. On grain cargoes, MSK has fixed Pan Ocean tonnage for 54,000 tons of cargo loading Jan. 5-16 US Gulf, discharging Japan at USD 16.40 per ton with 11 days all purposes, while Swiss Marine for same cargo quantity loading Jan. 4-15 has fixed M/V «Maria Bottiglieri» at USD. 17.25 per ton with same days. -On Capers, Mol Navix has fixed M/V «Tianronghai» 172,000 dwt, built 2000, delivery mid Jan. Passero trip via Brazil, redelivery Far East, at USD 10,250 daily. -On Panamax in Far East, Samsun has fixed M/V «Rutland Glen» 73,729 dwt, built 1999, delivery Jan. 2-3 China, redelivery South Korea, at USD 6,000 daily. -In Atlantic, Cargill has fixed M/V «Eleni» 73,000 dwt, built 1996, delivery Jan. 10-15 Gibraltar for one laden transatlantic leg via US Gulf at USD 6,250 daily. -On smaller sizes, Pan Ocean has fixed M/V «Frangiskos CK» 38,213 dwt, built 1984, delivery S. Australia January 5-15, redelivery China, at USD 6,000 daily and USD 87,750 ballast bonus.
