TANKERS – Aframaxes in the Med. are being fixed at W/S 140 – at same levels as in the N. Sea. – In Caribs, 70,000-ton cargoes are being fixed at W/S 180. – Quiet conditions for Suezmaxes. In the Med., cargoes out of Black Sea are being fixed at W/S 110, while 130,000-ton cargoes out of W. Africa are being fixed at W/S 115-117.5. The area’s tonnage list is reasonably spread through mid-May. – VLCCs out of same area with destination US Gulf are being fixed at W/S 87.5, while out of Arabian Gulf, Shell for 270,000-ton cargo, loading May 10, discharging Singapore, has fixed M/T «Abqaiq» at W/S 97.5, while Formosa for 260,000-ton cargo, loading May 1, discharging Taiwan, has fixed M/T «F. Petrochallenger» at W/S 97.5. – In the Med., Petraco for 80,000-ton cargo, loading April 27 Black Sea, discharging UKC-Med., has fixed M/T «Nilos» at W/S 150. – On Suezmaxes, Shell for 130,000-ton cargo, loading May 1 Algeria, discharging UKC-Med., has fixed M/T «Aegean Angel» at W/S 112.5. – In Caribs, Chevtex for 70,000-ton cargo, loading May 24 EC Mexico, discharging US Gulf, has fixed M/T «Barents Sea» at W/S 165. – In W. Africa, Sun for 130,000-ton cargo, loading May 12, discharging USAC, has fixed M/T «Astro Canopus» at W/S 117.5. – In Arabian Gulf, CSSA for 270,000-ton cargo, loading May 10, discharging S. Africa, has fixed M/T «Sakura I» at W/S 92.5. DRY CARGO Capers market remains firm in all sectors, but rumors of a modern 170,000-dwt type being booked for front-haul business at around USD 105,000 daily are unconfirmed. – Tonnage continues to be in demand for short-period business, with reports that Coeclerici booked the 2004-built 180,000-dwt, M/V «Pacific Confidence,» delivery Toronto, for 4-6 months’ trading at USD 82,500 daily. – In Far East, Noble fixed M/V «Cape Pelican,» 180,181 dwt, built 2005, delivery China end April, for a Brazilian round-trip at USD 75,000 daily. – Panamax market on the same path. In Atlantic, the firm conditions are supported by healthy grain demand from Brazil. – Dreyfus fixed M/V «Thalia,» 75,200 dwt, built 2001, delivery Continent April 25-30 for a trip via EC S. America, redelivery Singapore/Japan, at USD 46,000 daily. – In Far East, Kline has fixed M/V «Athina Zafirakis,» 74,204 dwt, built 2002, delivery Indonesia April 23-25, trip via WC India, redelivery Japan, at USD 35,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, Atlas has fixed M/V «Jin Da,» 39,630 dwt, built 1986, delivery US Gulf April 20-25, redelivery UK Cont., at USD 30,500 daily. – On ore cargoes, Neu for 150,000 tons of cargo, loading S. Africa May 10-21, discharging Australia, has fixed M/V «Orient Alliance» at USD 24.50 per ton with 7 days all purposes.
