TANKERS Another quiet day, with marginal inquiry in all areas. – In the Mediterranean the 80,000-ton cargoes are fixed at W/S 145, while the same-sized cross-UK cargoes at fixed at almost the same levels. – ENI for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading April 22 Libya, discharging Mediterranean, has fixed M/T «Iran Astaneh» at W/S 145. – In Caribs the market looks stable, with the 70,000-ton cargo liftings having been fixed around W/S 175-180. – Suezmaxes in the Mediterranean are quiet too. Lukoil for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading May 3 Black Sea, discharging UKC-Med., has fixed M/T «Searacer» at W/S 110. – In West Africa, the latest fixtures for 130,000-ton cargoes with USAC destination are at W/S 117.5. However, the market is giving signs of strengthening, with Sun having to pay for her cargo of May 5 above W/S 120. – Sun for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading May 12, discharging USAC, has fixed M/T «Astro Canopus» at W/S 117.5. – On VLCCs the going rate is W/S 87.5 for USG discharge, while with destination East it is at W/S 82.5. – In Arabian Gulf, CSSA for 270,000 tons of cargo, loading May 10, discharging South Africa, has fixed M/T «Sakura I» at W/S 92.5. DRY CARGO A slow market for Capers, especially in the East, while in the Atlantic rates remain steady with some owners trying to drive them higher. – In the East, Transfield has fixed M/V «Cpt. Costas,» 128,812 dwt, delivery mid-April China, for an Australian round trip at USD 39,000 daily. – On Panamaxes, the Atlantic market after last week’s gains is now looking a touch uncertain. Despite the strong Capesize market a number of cargoes were split into Panamaxes, while ballasters from the East are likely now to keep a lid on rates even with the increased grain interest. – In the Far East, Daebo has fixed M/V «Bahia,» 76,660 dwt, built 2004, delivery April 16-19, for 2 legs via Indonesia/ Malaysia, redelivery Far East, at USD 31,000 daily. – In the Atlantic, Grand Ocean has fixed M/V «Audax,» 75,220 dwt, built 2001, delivery France end-April, trip via East Coast S. America, redelivery China, at USD 45,300 daily. – On smaller sizes, Suisse Atlantique has fixed M/V «Anax,» 22,560 dwt, built 1981, delivery end-April W. Africa, trip via Brazil, redelivery Black Sea, at USD 22,000 daily. – On coal cargoes, Taipower for 63,000 tons of cargo, loading Indonesia June 1-10, discharging Taiwan, has fixed Armada tonnage at USD 11.14 per ton with 28,000 tons all purposes.
