Shipping Report

TANKERS Mediterranean with ample Aframax tonnage in the area. New cargoes are being quoted with mid-June loading dates. Owners have to absorb long waiting times. – The latest fixtures for 80,000-ton round-trip voyages are at W/S 130, while in the North Sea, similar-sized cargoes are being fixed at W/S 140. – The 100,000-ton cargoes out of Primorsk (Baltic Sea) are being fixed at W/S 152.5-155. – Aframaxes in Caribs are a much quieter market. Latest fixtures at W/S 180. – Suezmax rates steady in West Africa, with the 130,000-ton cargoes at W/S 150 with destination USAC. – In the Mediterranean, the 135,000-ton cargoes are being fixed at W/S 125. – This size vessels out of the Arabian Gulf are being fixed at W/S 80 and W/S 90 for west and east destinations, respectively. – In the Mediterranean and on Aframaxes, ENI, for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading June 14 Egypt, discharging Mediterranean, has fixed M/T «Gaetano d’Alesio» at W/S 130. – In Arabian Gulf, Unipec has fixed M/T «Sunlight Jewel» for 270,000 tons of cargo, loading June 19, discharging China, at W/S 58. DRY CARGO Another quiet day for Capers, with rates dropping in the Mediterranean too. – In Far East, M/V «Cape Eagle,» 161,475 dwt, built 1993, delivery beginning of June and for a round-trip voyage, was fixed at USD 37,000 daily, while Coscobulk has fixed M/V «Sanko Oasis,» 161,192 dwt, built 1995, delivery June 10-13 China, at USD 35,000 daily. – A similar day for Panamaxes. Atlantic market appears to be holding steady with ballasters still heading for South America. – ETA has fixed M/V «Capt. Stefanos,» 74,077 dwt, built 2002, delivery June 7-8 Argentina, redelivery Far East, at USD 32,000 daily, and USD 625,000 ballast bonus. – In the East, there has been some new business but there are still enough ships to accept levels of USD 19,000 daily for the round-trip voyages in the area. – Sinochart has fixed M/V «Clipper Monarch,» 74,381 dwt, built 2000, delivery Taiwan June 2-3, trip via Western Australia, at USD 18,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, Ed&F Man has fixed M/V «Hawk 1,» 50,296 dwt, built 2001, delivery US Gulf June 10-15, redelivery UKC-Mediterranean, at USD 37,000 daily.
