TANKERS Mediterranean Aframax market remains active, with the latest fixtures at W/S 180, while North Sea seems steady and at W/S 140 for the 80,000-ton round voyages. – The 100,000-ton cargoes out of Baltic are still fixed at W/S 140. – Caribs are very active, with a number of fresh inquiries and with rates for 70,000-ton cargoes moving upward from W/S 160 to W/S 210. – Suezmaxes are stable, with the Mediterranean holding at W/S 125 while in West Africa rates are settled at W/S 145 for transatlantic voyages and are expected to remain so due to balanced cargoes/vessels. – VLCCs are at steady levels out of Arabian Gulf, with Petron having fixed M/T «Yiomaral» for 260,000 tons of cargo, loading June 27, discharging Philippines, at W/S 57.5, while Chevron, for 280,000 tons of cargo, loading July 2, discharging West Coast North America, has fixed M/T «Athina» at W/S 71.5. – In the Mediterranean and on Aframax, Erg, for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading June 16 Egypt, discharging Mediterranean, has fixed M/T «Petrovsk» at W/S 172.5. – In the Cont., Vitol, for 100,000 tons of cargo, loading June 20 Baltic, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Sinova» at W/S 139. – In Caribs, Lyondell has fixed M/T «Falster Spirit» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading June 14, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 195. DRY CARGO Weaker rates for Capers in the Atlantic. M/V «Mineral Belgium,» 173,000 dwt, built 2005, was fixed at a new low of USD 30,000 daily for a transatlantic voyage been spot Dunkirk via Columbia. – A quiet day for Panamaxes, too. Rates are slightly easier in the Atlantic, with some resistance in some market areas. – There was talk that the 1981-built, 63,300 dwt M/V «Syros,» open La Corunna on June 8, had been booked by Cargbill for a trip via East Coast South America with redelivery Skaw/Passero at abt USD 22,500 daily. – In the same area, M/V «Santos Success,» 63,261 dwt, built 1984, was fixed by Baumarine, delivery Spain, trip port Kamsar, redelivery UKC, at USD 23,000 daily. – Little fresh news to be reported for Handy/Handymaxes in the Atlantic, too. M/V «Star Ace,» 41,216 dwt, built 1982, was fixed by Atlas, delivery Venezuela, redelivery Mediterranean, at USD 23,000 daily and USD 250,000 ballast bonus. – On ore cargoes, Transfield has fixed M/V «Eleftheria K» for 185,000 tons of cargo, loading Brazil end June-beg. July, discharging China, at USD 19.50 per ton with 2 days load and 25,000 tons discharge.
