TANKERS A busier day in the Mediterranean, with fresh inquiry out of the Black Sea. Rates, however, remain as per the last days, at W/S 152.5 and W/S 160 for cross Mediterranean and Black Sea respectively. – North Sea generally quiet, with the only activity out of the Baltic, where rates are stable for 100,000-ton cargoes at W/S 130. – Not very much activity in Caribs either, with 70,000-ton cargo liftings being fixed at W/S 170. – Firmer tone on Suezmaxes out of West Africa. Modern tonnage is being fixed at W/S 125 with destination USAC, while VLCCs out of the same area are being fixed at W/S 80 with destination US Gulf. – In the Mediterranean, Exxonmobil has fixed M/T «Hrvatska» for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading July 11 Turkey, discharging UKC-Mediterranean, at W/S 165. – Out of Arabian Gulf, there is little interest, with rates in the high W/S 90s for East and West destinations. – On VLCCs out of Arabian Gulf, S. Oil, for 265,000 tons of cargo, loading July 27, discharging South Korea, has fixed M/T «Prem Putli» at W/S 65. -m In the Mediterranean and on Aframaxes, Eni, for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading July 9 Egypt, discharging Italy, has fixed M/T «Ce Merapi» at W/S 150. – In the Cont., Stasco has fixed M/T «Anna Knutsen» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading July 1 Germany, discharging Rotterdam, at W/S 120. DRY CARGO The upturn in rates for Capers seems to have been short-lived. – Fewer cargoes in the market, with owners discounting in the Atlantic in order to remain in the area. – Swiss Marine has fixed M/V «Sunrise,» 138,237 dwt, built 1981, delivery Brazil mid-July, redelivery Muscat, at USD 20,000 daily and USD 1,050,000 ballast bonus. – Same charterers with destination Atlantic have fixed M/V «Andros Warrior,» 171,931 dwt, built 1986, delivery China beg. July, trip via South Africa, redelivery Rotterdam, at USD 14,000 daily. – In Pacific and on Panamaxes, SMS has fixed M/V «Ikan Belanak,» 75,776 dwt, built 2005, delivery Hong Kong July 2-4, trip via Indonesia, redelivery South Korea, at USD 15,500 daily. – In Atlantic, Daeyang has fixed M/V «Great Jae,» 73,192 dwt, built 1997, delivery Netherlands July 8-10, trip via East Coast South America, redelivery Far East, at USD 26,500 daily. – On smaller sizes, Star has fixed M/V «Prabhu Satram,» 48,280 dwt, built 1984, delivery West Coast South America, trip via Peru, redelivery UKC, at USD 19,000 daily.
