TANKERS The Mediterranean market remains depressed, with only one or two new cargoes being quoted. – API, for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Egypt July 25, discharging Falconara, Italy, has fixed Iranian tonnage at W/S 135, while IES has fixed M/T «M. Tsakos» for same cargo, loading July 27, with same destination, at W/S 140. – An active day in the North Sea, with owners realizing that activity can push rates upward. – Caribs steady both on Aframaxes and on Panamaxes. – Conoco has fixed M/T «Genmar Ajax» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading July 24 East Coast Mexico, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 175, while Valero has fixed M/T «Four Schooner» for 50,000 tons of cargo, loading July 20, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 227.5. – Suezmaxes remain weak and at W/S 100 in all areas. – Exxonmobil has fixed M/T «Tromso Trust» for 130,000 tons of cargo, loading July 30 Egypt, discharging Mediterranean, at W/S 100, while same charterers in West Africa have fixed M/T «Majestic,» discharging US Gulf, at same levels. – On VLCCs, Reliance has fixed M/T «Arosa» for 275,000 tons of cargo, loading August 9, discharging India, at W/S 105, while BP has fixed M/T «Astro Centaurus» for 280,000 tons of cargo, loading August 3, discharging Red Sea, at W/S 107.5. DRY CARGO Atlantic Capesize market is holding fairly steady. – Coscobulk has fixed M/V «Cape Hawk,» 161,425 dwt, built 1995, for a trip via Brazil to China at USD 30,000 daily. Vessel was on ballast, having sailed from Korea on June 25. – In Far East, BHP Billiton has fixed M/V «Tian Lu Hai,» 174,505 dwt, built 2005, for an Australian round-trip voyage at USD 28,000 daily, while Swiss Marine has fixed M/V «Rubin Ace,» 151,279 dwt, built 1996, delivery end July Japan, trip via Roberts Bank, Canada, and Italy, redelivery Passero, at USD 17,250 daily. – On Panamaxes, the Atlantic market is still under pressure, with rates looking fragile. There are just too many ships, although there are only a few modern vessels willing to go east. – CC Maritime has fixed M/V «Maritime Anita,» 76,737 dwt, built 2004, delivery Spain mid-July, for two transatlantic voyages at USD 17,250 daily. – In Far East, Dreyfus has fixed M/V «Genco Trader,» 69,000 dwt, built 1990, delivery Japan July 20-22, for a Nopac round-trip at USD 11,750 daily. – On smaller sizes, Mur has fixed M/V «Med Salvador,» 49,228 dwt, built 1982, delivery Beira, Mozambique, end July, redelivery Mediterranean, at USD 12,000 daily.
