Government to pick OTE sale adviser

A minister said yesterday that the government will soon pick an adviser for the sale of a stake in the country’s largest telecoms provider, OTE, part of Greece’s ambitious privatization plan. The government has said it will sell part of its 38.6 percent stake in OTE next year to a strategic investor, preferably to a major European peer which will also participate in management, in an effort to boost competition in the Greek economy. «The ministerial committee will meet within the next few days to choose an adviser (for OTE),» Transport and Communications Minister Michalis Liapis said. Telekom Austria is among those interested in purchasing the stake, along with Germany’s Deutsche Telekom and Spain’s Telefonica.
