TANKERS Despite the comparatively high numbers for prompt fixtures in the Cont., market appears quiet for early April positions with 80,000-ton cargoes being fixed at W/S 100. – Market in the Med. seems steady, with modern Aframax at W/S 120-125 and Suezmaxes at W/S 82.5-85, while Caribs seem to be firming with 70,000-ton cargo liftings being fixed at W/S 115. – Suezmaxes in good demand out of Continent with Irving, Sun and Navion having cargoes with loading dates of mid-April. – W.Africa on same type vessels at W/S 65-67.5, 70 for US Gulf, USAC and Cont., respectively. – In the Med., Noc for 80,000 tons of cargo loading March 25 Libya, discharging Med., has fixed M/T «Armata» at W/S 115. – In the Continent, Gunvor for 80,000 tons of cargo loading Russia April 5, discharging UKC, has fixed M/T «Channel Dragon» at W/S 110. – In Caribs, Valero has fixed M/T «Singapore Spirit» for 70,000 tons of cargo loading March 31, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 112.5. DRY CARGO The latest Capers fixtures are justifying the rise in their particular index. M/V «Tianyanghai» for a 150,000 stem from Australia to Taranto (Italy) has fixed at USD 8.65 per ton, while M/V «Paschalis D» for 160,000 tons of coal loading Richards Bay (S.Africa) to Rotterdam has fixed at USD 6.95 per ton. – Conversely, the Panamax market in the East remains flat with M/V «Cinzia d’Amato» 74,500 dwt, built 2002, with delivery Kosichang trip via S. Africa, redelivery Continent, having fixed at USD 5,500 daily. – The Atlantic market is steady with Bulfracht having fixed M/V «Huang Shan Hai» 73,596 dwt, built 1998, delivery US Gulf beg. April, redelivery Far East, at USD 8,750 daily and 208,000 ballast bonus. – On Handymax, the strong area at the moment remains the Black Sea, where rates close to USD 11,000 have already been agreed upon. – On Panamax in Far East, Sinochart has fixed M/V «Pacific Prospect» 73,630 dwt, built 1993, delivery Far East end March – beg. April for 1/1/1 years trading at USD 8,900 daily for the first, USD 9,900 for the second and USD 10,900 for the third.
