‘Smart Eyes’

One of 100 blind people yesterday to receive ‘Smart Eyes,’ a newly developed electronic device designed to help people with eyesight disabilities orient themselves. The device, developed in the telecommunications laboratory of Thessaloniki’s Aristotle University, is equipped with digital maps of the northern port city and Athens to enable the user to monitor his location via a GPS system and provides information regarding public transport. The devices are still at the evaluation stage. Mobile operator Cosmote, Microsoft and Geomatics sponsored the project.
